case:-

I have the honour to report the following

On the 5th November, 1910, two newly arrived

Sappers of the 25th Company, Royal Engineers, were

sent out to join a detachment then working on the

preparation of gun mountings on Mount Davis. They

&

madejcertain statements to their Divisional officer,

a copy of whose report with the recorded atatements

of the two Sappers is attached.

From this it will be seen that on the 5th

November, 1910, a certain German Mr Heerman, son of

the manager (Possibly partner) of the firm of Gaupp

and Co. a well known firm of opticians and chart

sellers of long standing in Hongkong, was in possession

of a large scale plan of the Mount Davis Defences

at the Western entrance of the Harbour, and possibly

also of a plan of Devil's Peak Defences at the

Eastern entrance. It is curious that he should have

openly shown the former plan to the two soldiers.
